Adam Lyons is using AI to homeschool his five kids and boost problem-solving at home.
Lyons, partner and chief AI officer at chiefAIofficer.com, says the kids rely on AI as a tutor when older siblings can’t help. They use AI on phones and tablets to get past frustrating homework questions.
The family also uses AI for hands-on fixes. When their ranch gate broke, AI guided them through buying tools and troubleshooting electronics. They even fixed their HVAC system with AI help.
Lyons often tells his kids, “Have you asked AI for assistance?” It’s a go-to for school and real-world problems alike.
At bedtime, AI handles the endless “why” questions after Lyons gives a few answers. He also calls on AI to mediate kid arguments, sparking talks about facts versus opinions.
Lyons balances AI use with screen-free creative time. His 15-year-old is building a video game using four different AI models. Outside play still gets priority to nurture creativity.
Lyons summed up AI’s role bluntly:
"You’re not going to lose your job to AI."
"But you will lose it to a person using AI. AI is the tool that’s going to shape our future, so I’ve integrated it into our household."
