Apple just lost a top AI exec to Meta. Ruoming Pang, head of Apple’s foundation models team, is leaving for Meta’s new superintelligence unit.
Pang joined Apple from Alphabet in 2021 but now jumps to Mark Zuckerberg’s AI hiring spree. Meta lured him with a pay package worth tens of millions per year.
Zuckerberg has also scooped up big AI names like Alexandr Wang from Scale AI, Daniel Gross, and ex-GitHub CEO Nat Friedman, all on high compensation deals.
This exit is another blow to Apple’s struggling AI ambitions as it faces intense competition from Meta and others.
