Google Gemini is facing backlash over a new ad where the AI assistant gives terrible cooking advice.

The commercial shows a guy who adds way too much sugar to his gochujang pasta sauce. Instead of tossing the mess, he asks his phone for help. Gemini suggests making “tasty cookies” out of the sugary sauce. The guy follows the vague instructions — add butter, mix, bake for 10 minutes — then happily eats a cookie.

The internet is roasting the ad. Reddit users and TikTok commenters call the advice “so annoying” and question what’s for dinner now. Experienced cooks slam it for ignoring basics, like scooping out excess sugar.

Other critics point out the absurdity: pasta sauce rarely has cookie-friendly flavors like onions or garlic, and the kitchen counter shows eggs, flour, and vanilla extract randomly left out. The baking “recipe” is a mess with no measurements or logic.

One commenter admitted they searched “sauce advert stupid” just to find others hating the commercial:

“Googled ‘sauce advert stupid’ and then made a Reddit profile just so I could find someone saying this and agree with them.”

Emma Beddington, Guardian columnist, called the ad a “cavalier” insult to dinner and baking, sparking a call for a gochujang-flavored fightback.

No word yet from Google on if Gemini’s kitchen advice will get an update. For now, the AI’s cookie solution is just stirring frustration.
