World Health Organization is launching a major AI in health workshop at the AI for Good Summit 2025. The event, held on July 11 in Geneva, aims to push standardized AI guidelines and boost global collaboration for AI in healthcare.

The session titled "Enabling AI for Health Innovation and Access" will spotlight WHO’s upcoming AI in Traditional Medicine Technical Brief. It runs from 9:00 to 12:15 in Room Q at Palexpo.

Key topics include the global AI health landscape, real-world frontline AI use cases, and the tricky intersection of AI with intellectual property laws.

WHO and UN agency partners behind the Global Initiative on AI for Health (GI-AI4H) want to tackle the pressing need for frameworks on interoperability, ethical governance, and scalable AI deployments in health systems under strain worldwide.

Workshop goals:

  • Promote responsible AI use to transform public health
  • Fuel debate on research, innovation, and IP issues
  • Raise awareness of inter-UN agency AI for health efforts

Highlights feature GI-AI4H strategies on AI standards and policies, AI tools for conflict-zone triage and diagnostics, plus legal talks on AI and IP law.

WHO’s AI for Health (AIH) initiative supports member states with ethical standards, expert groups, and partnerships to make AI safe, inclusive, and impactful in global health.

WHO envisions AI driving smarter, equitable, sustainable healthcare. The workshop aims to spotlight GI-AI4H’s work, inspire stakeholder advocacy, and set technical and governance frameworks to scale AI solutions worldwide.
