Qantas confirms data breach hitting 6 million passengers.

The Australian airline said a cybercriminal struck a call center on June 30. Customer info stolen includes names, emails, phone numbers, birthdates, and frequent flyer numbers.

This follows a wave of aviation hacks. Canadian carrier WestJet was breached in June. Hawaiian Airlines revealed a breach last week. Media tied those attacks to Scattered Spider, a hacking collective known for hitting big companies.

Google’s security arm Mandiant told TechCrunch it’s “too early to tell” if Scattered Spider hit Qantas, but warned airlines to brace for social engineering attacks.

"It is too early to tell if this incident is linked to Scattered Spider,” Mandiant said to TechCrunch.
“Airlines should be on high alert for social engineering attacks.”
