Xiaomi launched its first AI-powered smart glasses Thursday, jumping into China’s crowded smart eyewear market.

The glasses go for 1,999 yuan (around US$278) and pack a 12MP ultra-wide camera plus Qualcomm’s AR1 chip. Battery life is 8.6 hours, double what Ray-Ban Meta glasses offer. A full recharge takes 45 minutes.

They debuted at Xiaomi’s “Human x Car x Home” event, alongside the company’s new foldable phone and first SUV.

Xiaomi’s glasses run on its XiaoAI assistant. Users can snap photos, record video, identify objects, translate text, or scan QR codes for mobile payments — all by voice command.

Beijing-based Xiaomi posted images on Weibo ahead of the launch, calling the glasses a “next-generation personal smart gadget.” CEO Lei Jun highlighted the first-person video and voice query functions, similar to offerings from Meta and Ray-Ban.

Meta’s smart glasses still dominate globally, with over 60% market share last year, according to Counterpoint.

Xiaomi just threw its hat in the ring with a solid hardware spec sheet and AI smarts aimed at daily use.
