Rubrik is buying AI startup Predibase to boost enterprise AI agents.
The data security firm announced the acquisition Wednesday. Predibase builds tools that help companies train and tweak open source AI models. The goal: speed up custom AI agent adoption.
Terms weren’t disclosed. CNBC reports the deal could be between $100 million and $500 million. Rubrik declined to comment on price.
Predibase launched in 2021 and raised over $28 million from VCs like Felicis and Greylock. Founders Devvret Rishi (CEO), Piero Molino (CSO), and Travis Addair (CTO) lead the company.
Rubrik says Predibase will help users build AI agents faster using Amazon Bedrock, Azure OpenAI, and Google Agentspace.
Rubrik CEO Bipul Sinha wrote on the company blog:
When [Predibase’s] capabilities are paired with secure data platforms like Rubrik’s, they can be transformative, helping ensure trusted data powers responsible and impactful AI.
Just as Rubrik has simplified access to secured, governed data for AI, Predibase is solving the performance and cost issues around deploying large language models for agentic and other AI applications.
Rubrik joins a wave of companies snapping up AI startups to build out AI agent tech. Salesforce picked up Informatica for $8 billion in May. Snowflake bought Crunchy Data in June. Collibra nabbed Raito shortly after.
Founded 2014, Rubrik raised $1.6 billion in VC before going public in April 2024.
