Meta keeps hunting top AI talent. The company tried to buy Safe Superintelligence, a $32 billion startup co-founded by OpenAI’s former chief scientist, Ilya Sutskever. CNBC reported the attempted acquisition on June 19. Sutskever said no.

Now, Meta is in talks to hire Safe Superintelligence’s CEO, Daniel Gross. They’re also eyeing ex-GitHub CEO Nat Friedman. Both are leaders with solid AI and investing backgrounds.

Meta is reportedly taking a stake in Friedman and Gross’s joint venture, NFDG. NFDG has backed AI startups like Perplexity and Character.AI.

This move could boost Meta’s AI superintelligence lab big time. Just earlier this month, Meta brought on Scale AI’s CEO, Alexandr Wang, and several execs from the data labeling startup.

Meta is betting on top AI brains to push its next phase hard.
