Google is rolling out Search Live, a new voice conversation feature inside the Google app for iOS and Android. It’s currently limited to US users enrolled in the AI Mode experiment in Labs.
Search Live lets you have a back-and-forth voice chat with Search—just tap the new Live icon in the app and speak your question. Follow-ups work seamlessly. The answers come with easy links so you can dig deeper online.
The feature runs in the background, so you can keep chatting even while using other apps. There’s also a Transcript mode for switching to text. Plus, AI Mode history means you can revisit past answers anytime.
Google calls it similar to its Gemini Live but says Search Live uses a custom version of Gemini with advanced voice capabilities. The company plans to add real-time camera use, letting you show what you see during chats.
Why both Search Live and Gemini Live exist separately remains unclear. Gemini Live is already easier to access on Android. For now, Search Live is stuck in Labs with US users only.
Google shared more details on its blog.
