KR and HD Hyundai Samho teamed up on June 11 to roll out AI-driven tools for ship design and analysis.

The deal is a joint push to boost design productivity and sharpen engineer capabilities in shipbuilding. AI will target two main areas: optimizing hull support layout and creating a generative AI-powered, secure on-prem design verification system.

The project aims to lighten engineers’ workloads while delivering more precise, consistent design results.

SHIM Hak-mu, Executive VP of HD Hyundai Samho, said:

Optimizing the arrangement of hull supports with AI and introducing a secure in-house design system will ease the workload for design engineers while enabling more consistent and precise outcomes—ultimately enhancing overall productivity and quality

KIM Daeheon, Executive VP of KR, added:

This joint development project represents a significant turning point in modernizing the ship design and analysis process using advanced AI technologies. KR remains committed to developing a wide range of AI-powered services not only in classification work but also across the broader shipbuilding and maritime sectors

KR and Hyundai Samho plan to expand these AI capabilities to other shipbuilding operations after initial development.

This is just the start of pushing AI deeper into maritime design and engineering workflows.
