Alta just raised $11M to turn “Clueless” styling fantasies into AI reality.
Founder Jenny Wang, 28, launched the AI-powered personal stylist and shopper months ago after years waiting for tech to catch up. Alta uses your closet photos, purchase receipts, and a huge database to recommend outfits. Users get a virtual avatar to try looks for events like TechCrunch Disrupt.
Alta taps expert help including Michelle Obama’s stylist, Meredith Koop, to train its AI. The startup landed big names backing it: Menlo Ventures leads the seed round. Also investing are the Arnault family’s Algaé Ventures (LVMH), Phenomenal Ventures (Kamala Harris’ niece), Anthropic’s Anthology fund, plus angels like DoorDash CEO Tony Xu and supermodels Jasmine Tookes and Karlie Kloss.
Wang leaned on her tech network from roles at DoorDash and as an advisor to fashion brands. She said:
“I am still actively coding every day and learning from our team and technical advisors,”
The fresh funds will fuel R&D and team growth, with an eye on new user interfaces and models. Alta already partnered with the CFDA to offer access to fashion designers. Wang moved the company HQ to NYC for proximity to Europe and LVMH.
They’re also working with Marie Kondo for Oceania expansion and hunting global retail tie-ups. Wang calls Alta part of a new wave of AI consumer tech set to reshape styling and shopping.
