Apple delays its AI-powered Siri upgrade again, now aiming for spring 2026 after missing fall 2024 and spring 2025 targets.
The company first announced new Siri AI features in June 2024, planning a fall 2024 launch that slipped multiple times. Bloomberg reports Apple may preview the update this fall, with the full rollout next spring.
The delay stems from technical challenges that forced a complete Siri rebuild and management reshuffling.
Craig Federighi, Apple’s software engineering chief, acknowledged the extra time needed at WWDC 2025:
"This work needed more time to reach our
high quality bar, and we look forward to sharing more about it in the coming year."
CEO Tim Cook also confirmed delays during the May quarterly earnings call:
"We are making progress, and we look forward to getting these features into customers’ hands."
"There’s not a lot of other reasons. … It’s just taking a bit longer than we thought."
Ex-employees say Apple is struggling to integrate large language models (LLMs) into Siri, in contrast to rivals like Amazon, Google, and Microsoft who adopt aggressive AI pushes.
Apple remains cautious on generative AI, choosing a slower roll for Siri’s upgrade rather than rushing it to market.
