Apple just launched Xcode 26 at WWDC 2025 with OpenAI’s ChatGPT built in for coding, docs, and more. Developers can now connect AI models from other providers using API keys for AI-powered coding suggestions.
“Developers can connect [AI] models directly into their coding experience to write code, tests, and documentation; iterate on a design; fix errors; and more,” Apple wrote in their blog post.
The update lets devs generate code previews and handle tasks with ChatGPT inside Xcode—no ChatGPT account needed. Paid ChatGPT users can link their accounts to get higher rate limits.
Apple also introduced the Foundation Models framework today. It lets developers run Apple’s AI models locally on Apple Silicon devices with only three lines of code.
Earlier rumors suggested Apple might partner with Anthropic for AI coding tools, but they picked ChatGPT instead.
Last year Apple demonstrated Swift Assist, a coding assistant for Xcode, but it wasn’t released broadly.
