Apple just launched Workout Buddy, an AI workout coach, at WWDC 2025. It uses your current workout stats plus your fitness history — paces, miles, activity rings, training load — to guide you in real time.
Workout Buddy runs on Apple Intelligence via the iPhone. It uses a text-to-speech model to deliver encouragement through a generative voice styled like a Fitness+ trainer. The voices are built from Fitness+ trainers’ real voice data. Users can pick from multiple options to find their vibe.
The Workout app for Apple Watch and iPhone now starts your run with a pep talk. It highlights milestones like hitting four miles, your fastest last mile, and average heart rate. After the session, it reports your average pace, heart rate, and any milestones like your first 10K.
Workout Buddy launches first in English and supports the most popular workouts.
Apple is stressing privacy with this AI feature.
The Apple Watch Workout app is also getting a new layout. Custom Workout and Race Route are now just a tap away. There are fresh media features too. Apple Music can pick playlists based on your workout or preferences. You can also get podcast and playlist suggestions tailored to your usual listening and workout type.
