IBM launches AskIAM, a generative AI tool for identity and access management (IAM). It’s now generally available within the IBM Consulting Advantage platform. The AI-driven system streamlines user provisioning, access requests, and boosts identity protection through automation.

AskIAM targets the mess of multi-cloud environments and complex IT setups that hackers exploit by abusing valid credentials. IBM’s own X-Force Threat Intelligence Index flagged credential abuse as the top attack vector, pushing urgent IAM modernization.

The tool integrates with Slack and Microsoft Teams for natural language access requests and real-time approvals. It speeds onboarding for apps and privileged access tools, while helping migrate legacy IAM systems like SAP IdM and CA Technologies to modern platforms.

Scott Tiazkun, IDC’s worldwide security services research manager, weighed in:

“The need for automated identity and access management to reduce manual effort is long overdue,” said Scott Tiazkun, research manager for worldwide security services at IDC.

“IBM’s AskIAM uses AI to streamline access requests and reduce delays via integration with Microsoft Teams and Slack for notification and action. The AI assistant helps users, auditors, and executives get faster, easier access and better visibility into compliance and security. As an agent for identity, AskIAM delivers one of the most user-friendly experiences in the space.”

Built on IBM watsonx Assistant, AskIAM works on-prem, hybrid, and cloud. It supports IBM Verify, Microsoft Entra, Saviynt, plus CyberArk, Delinea, and Sailpoint. Its open architecture can tap into clients’ existing AI models and messaging tools.

IBM Consulting experts co-create implementations tailored to customer IGA solutions, providing ongoing support as environments evolve.
