Snap has launched a stand-alone Lens Studio iOS app and a web tool, aimed at making AR Lens creation accessible for everyone. This new offering was announced on Wednesday.

With the Lens Studio app, users can easily generate AI effects, add their Bitmoji, and explore trending templates to create customized Lenses.

Previously, Lens Studio was only available through a desktop app for professional developers. While that app will still cater to pros, the new tools are designed for users of all skill levels.

“These are experimental new tools that make it easier than ever to create, publish, and play with Snapchat Lenses made by you,” Snap wrote in a blog post.

“Now, you can generate your own AI effects, add your dancing Bitmoji to the fun, and express yourself with Lenses that reflect your mood or an inside joke — whether you’re on the go or near your computer.”

Snap boasts a community of over 400,000 professional AR developers, but with these new tools, the company aims to attract more casual creators.

Snap remains a leader in AR, especially after Meta faced backlash for shutting down its Spark AR platform. By simplifying Lens creation, Snap reinforces its commitment to the technology.

In addition, Snap introduced advanced tools for professionals yesterday, including new Lens Studio features for Bitmoji games. These updates include a new turn-based system for gameplay and a customizable Character Controller.

The launch follows an industry trend of making AR more accessible, with Snap doubling down while others pull back.
