Elon Musk’s Entry into Politics

Elon Musk is lashing out at Congress over a recent spending bill aimed at slashing clean energy support, which he claims would hurt Tesla. Musk labeled the legislation an “outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill” and a “disgusting abomination” on X.

The issue started when House Republicans pushed through the bill, including revisions that would potentially choke off tax credits for electric vehicles. Currently, consumers can get up to $7,500 off for eligible EVs, but the new provisions want to scrap this by 2026 and impose a cap that could directly impact Tesla.

Musk’s frustration heightened after some of his lobbying efforts failed to yield favorable results from the administration. An Axios report revealed he felt “butthurt” over losing influence in the legislative process, despite spending time cozying up to lawmakers.

The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget estimated the bill could add $3 trillion to the national debt. While the Congressional Budget Office hasn’t released an official score, the impacts are palpable.

“I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore,” Musk wrote.

“Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.”

Republicans aren’t just targeting Tesla. The bill also slashes tax credits for rooftop solar installations, a segment where Tesla has seen massive growth recently. If the legislation passes in the Senate, it could impact Musk’s energy division, which has expanded 67% year-over-year.

Adding insult to injury, the White House also called off Jared Isaacman’s nomination for NASA administrator—something Musk had backed—just after he exited the administration.

Welcome to the harsh world of politics, Elon.
