Snowflake is acquiring Crunchy Data for an estimated $250 million. This move aims to bolster Snowflake’s database capabilities as demand for AI solutions skyrockets.

Crunchy Data specializes in Postgres databases, a critical asset for developers. The company’s clients include big names like UPS and U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

The acquisition allows Snowflake to launch Snowflake Postgres, optimizing its offerings in the AI space. The tech will enter private preview soon.

Vivek Raghunathan, SVP of engineering at Snowflake, said:

"Our vision is to deliver the world’s most trusted and comprehensive data and AI platform to our customers.
Today’s announcement of our proposed acquisition of Crunchy Data represents another reason why Snowflake is the ultimate destination for all enterprise data and AI needs.
We’re tackling a massive $350 billion market opportunity and a real need for our customers to bring Postgres to the Snowflake AI Data Cloud."

This acquisition follows a trend of tech giants snapping up data companies. Just last week, Salesforce picked up Informatica, and earlier, ServiceNow acquired Data.World. Snowflake also acquired Datavolo last year as part of its expansion strategy.

Expect more updates as Snowflake ramps up its PostgreSQL integration.
