Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs is racing to finalize a national AI road map by June 2025.

Minister Meutya Hafid announced the push during a press conference in Jakarta.

"From there, we will create a derivative in the form of an AI regulation," Hafid stated.

The government recognizes the need for clear guidelines to maximize AI benefits and mitigate risks. To draft the road map, discussions are already underway with tech players like GoTo and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

"Currently, we are inviting stakeholders to discuss the AI regulation, and it is indeed very dynamic," Hafid noted.

She emphasized the government’s commitment to careful planning, aiming for comprehensive regulation without stifling creativity in AI.

Deputy Minister Nezar Patria added that the focus extends beyond regulations. The government is also working on building digital talent through programs like the Digital Talent Scholarship.

This initiative responds to a World Bank report highlighting that Indonesia will need at least nine million digital talents by 2030 to boost its digital economy.
